SB13 Conf

The Sustainable Building Conference 2013 (SB13) Singapore was organised by the BCA Centre for Sustainable Buildings (BCA CSB) and the School of Design and Environment, National University of Singapore (NUS) on September 9-10, 2013. The SB13 Singapore was hosted during the Singapore Green Building Week (September 9-13, 2013), in conjunction with the International Green Building Conference, BEX Asia (showcasing green building technologies and products), World Engineers Summit and other concurrent events. The conferences were well attended with strong local, regional and international participation and delegates were able to benefit from the co-location of events.

SB13 Singapore is part of a series of conferences hosted in different parts of the world in 2013. The conferences will lead up to the global Sustainable Building conference in Barcelona, Spain in October, 2014. SB13 Singapore addressed the theme “Realising Sustainability in the Tropics,” with a focus on tracks such as Efficacy, Ecology, Wellness, Integration and a special session on Construction Materials Stewardship. The annual business meeting of the International Council for Research and Innovation in Building and Construction (CIB) Working Commission W115 Construction Materials Stewardship was also held in conjunction with the SB13 Singapore on September 10, 2013.

The conference showcased built projects, ongoing research and governance models that specifically address life in the tropics, paradigms, processes and tools that can help designers, developers and policy-makers understand the exchange between people and buildings, buildings and neighbourhoods, cities and their surroundings, man and nature. These topics presented by industry leaders, top universities and leading research institutes also reflected diverse aspects of sustainable urbanism, regenerative design, socio-cultural vectors, life cycle assessment and materials reuse. The conference delegates also had the opportunity to socialise and network during the SB13 Singapore networking reception hosted at the Marina Bay Sands on September 9, 2013.

An SB series of conferences was hosted in Singapore for the first time and received an overwhelming response with over 130 abstract submissions and 80 technical papers that were presented at the conference. The conference was well attended by participation from over 200 delegates, with a representation from 21 countries and all 6 continents.

A heartfelt ‘thank you’ to all the authors, participants and members of the scientific panel; we thank also our gracious sponsors for their support and for making this event possible.

We look forward to your active participation at BCA CSB’s future activities and events!
